When "Fair" is Anything But: FAIR & DCSD
Estimated Read Time: 3 minutes
You might be wondering — who is “FAIR?” They’ve made countless public comments at DCSD Board of Education meetings against our district's current Equity policy and, recently, the new DCSD school board majority has given FAIR a seat at the (private) table to help them try to change the existing Equity policy.
FAIR stands for Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism and "Colorblind" is part of their mantra.
Sounds nice on the surface, right?
Here’s what you might not see: FAIR’s Douglas County chapter is new, but this story is old. Previously known as “Wokebusters of Douglas County” on Facebook, this group of local parents believe they’re fighting against their kids being "indoctrinated." You don’t have to scratch too far on the surface to see what motivates some members:
FAIR wants to review and control everything their kids are learning, convinced that existing programs in Douglas County are all pathways to Critical Race Theory (CRT) in disguise or that Equity is CRT. This is not true, and even their own Chapter Leaders acknowledged this in their Facebook group:
Groups that aim to deny the history and lived experiences of marginalized groups should not be responsible for steering our Equity policy. Anytime our school board mentions "FAIR," listen between the lines!
