It seems like it’s the far-right extremists in our community, not the rest of us, and certainly not the students. And these people don’t have a problem with “identity;” they have a problem with bigotry.

We have seen a pattern arise with the “Kids First” majority board members – avoidance of accountability.

Requiring an individual to be “named” removes the ability of that individual who wishes to remain anonymous for any reason to protect their identity and avoid retaliation.
“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.” We are “Kids First,” and we are accountable to no one!
Mike Peterson (who is now the DCSD School Board President) and the other directors from the “Kids First” campaign slate (Christy Williams, Kaylee Winegar, and Becky Myers) have eluded any sort of accountability since they were sworn into office.
As their actions continue to demonstrate, “Kids First” directors’ focus is NOT on the kids of DCSD. A judge agrees.
We finally have official resolution on whether or not laws were broken by the majority members of the Douglas County School District Board of Education.
“Parents’ Rights” In Public Education
It seems to be all over the news these days, doesn’t it? Numerous bills around “parents’ rights” have been introduced in legislatures across the country, and some have passed while others have not. It’s the topic of countless, impassioned public comments at school board meetings nationwide, and the pet cause of quite a few individual lawmakers and other elected officials. But what does it all mean, really?

In 2022 Colorado adopted new Social Studies Standards but school districts with extremist school boards are finding ways to use curriculum that does not meet the requirements. How is this happening and should we be worried?
